Make Your Own Decoupage Cardboard Easter Bunny

I had a plan to buy some paper mache bunnies and decoupage them - could I find any paper mache bunnies? No. Then I looked around for inexpensive ornaments that I could decoupage. I could not find inexpensive ones. So plan three is when one really has to look outside the box. I don't mind plan three. I decided to make my own bunny - silhouette style, and sort of paper tole style. Here is how I made it...

I cut out bunny shapes from corrugated cardboard and Vintage Easter paper. Cut two full

silhouette pieces out of cardboard.

Ink the edges of your paper. I used brown chalk ink. Glue all papers to coordinating card board pieces with mod podge. Cover full bunny silhouette with mod podge and stick on back leg, front leg, and head with ear piece. Apply mod podge to pieces you just stuck on to seal all of bunny. Let dry.

This can be where you finish - but if you want your bunny to be free standing please continue.

Take two strips of cardboard and fold each of them back and forth. My cardboard was about 7 inches long. Glue in between folds to make a spacer. Repeat with second one.

Glue cardboard spacers on the second bunny silhouette. You can cover this piece with paper too but I didn't. Glue a spacer at the head and the other end. Apply glue to top of spacers and carefully place dried decoupaged bunny silhouette on top making sure it is directly on top of the other (you don't want it wobbly) Please keep in mind, this bunny will have a 1 inch or so space between it. It is okay on a mantel against a wall but if it is going on a table or something like that, I would prop it up differently maybe making several bunny shapes and gluing them together.

I think it turned out pretty cute. I am slowly but surely getting all my Easter decor ready for my mantel. I am making another one of these, mirror imaging it. I am getting anxious to put all of my crafts together.
