Marriage Survival Tool Kit

I had a lot of fun putting this Marriage Survival Tool Kit together. This was for a wedding gift but the idea could be used for an anniversary, or Valentines gift. I would modify some of the sayings if it was to that special someone rather than to that special couple.
Here is what I put in the Marriage Survival Tool Kit - along with the sayings.....

Tape Measure - Love beyond Measure

Tape - Stick Together

Nails - Build your relationship every day
( I was going to put a hammer with this but the tool box I bought didn't let it fit)

Assorted Household Hardware Accessories
(little things like picture hangers and tacks)-

Remember the big things are the little things

Mini Screwdrivers - If a screw is loose, tighten it

Level - Find balance in your marriage. Love on the level

Glue - Establish a divine bond

And of course a tool kit....

I found some marriage advice to go with all the sayings as well. I printed out tags
(find a copy below) and cut out a tag with the marital advice the same size of the other tags and placed them on the opposite side.
Here is the marriage advice that went with the tape measure:

“Are you willing to search within yourself for the character required to make Your marriage work? All our relationships follow the contours of life; they have ups and downs. This is why our families provide a critical measure of our character—and the opportunity, again and again to nurture it.”
Stephen R. Covey

  3. This is a great idea... I have a few weddings coming up... Do you recall approximately what you spent on these items?

  4. What a great idea you had, & thanks for sharing it with us. I'm making a tool kit for a wedding next week & know they will love it. They just moved into a new house last week & asked for gift cards for Home Depot.
One question though...what is the tag for that says: "Extend the Power of Love"? Did you make that for something in petecular & didn't add it to your above post? Just wondering

  5. @ heinass - Oh, I never noticed that I didn't have the picture for that tag - I used an extension cord. Hope that helps.
@ lovebug - tools can be pretty pricey, however I made sure that I bought them when they went 50 percent or more discount. For example - the level was regular 19.99, I believe it went on sale for 7.99. The tape measurer was about the same as the level regular around $20 - but I bought it on sale for half price. The tool kit itself was close to $10. I do know the whole kit was less than $50 because I bought items that were on sale.
    Hope this helps.

  6. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly, I already wrapped it up without it. I bought everything at Home Depot for under $10. & bought their re-usable shopping bag (2.97)to put it all in, instead of the tool box. I had alot of packing peanuts here, so used those to 'fluff' the bag & hide the stuff in, then put curly streamers to tie it all together where the bag snaps together. Sure wish I had taken pictures of it to show you. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful idea. I added another tag by copying one of yours & editing it for the 'furniture sliders' that said "May any arguments SLIDE by quickly".

  13. I enjoyed this post very much so and look to making this for a friends wedding party NEXT weekend. Question for you: how did you get a worn looking edges on your tags? was it a certain type of paper you printed on?
    Thank you!

    1. It's ink. Just scrape the edge of your tag across an ink pad at an angle

  14. This kit is really cute, I love it! I know lots of people that could use one of these :) I LOVE the tags that you used on each of the tools and they are truly the perfect tools to "fix" a marriage. I hope that it is okay, I just finished a 'survival kits' round-up and I just couldn't help but include your marriage survival tool kit. You can see it here:

  16. I am so glad I found this! I wanted to add goo gone. Do you know of any clever saying I can add to it?

    ReplyDelete
  17. OOohh - Goo Gone. Great idea!! The tag could say something like - Get out of sticky situations/remove your relationship from sticky situations/ultimate sticky situation solution/find logical solutions to sticky situations.
    And a possible quote...
“Never let a problem to be solved, become more important than a person to be loved.”
    ― Thomas S. Monson
Let me know what you come up with!!

  56. Ditto on all of the positive comments. Our friends weren't registered anywhere, and only wanted gifts to help with home improvements. Needless to say, this was PERFECT! It also helps that Lowes was open until 10pm the night before the wedding. :) Thank you so much, Sue! I also added a couple of my own:
    1) Safety glasses, hearing protection, knee pads - "Always Use Protection: The Way of Love 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13.4-7 To truly love our spouse is to protect them by showing honor and respect for their feelings."
    2) Mr. Clean Sponges and Krud Kutter - "Don't be afraid to get Dirty: WAKE UP YOUR SOUL! WAKE UP YOUR SPIRIT! LIFE IS A JOURNEY, AND IT IS TIME TO GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY BY DOING SOMETHING THAT IS WORTHWHILE.SENORA ROY"

  71. Just wanted to throw another twist on the marriage survival toolkit...I went to a Bridal shower yesterday and did all the tools & duct tape in PINK. Instead of doing a glue bottle, I did a PINK hot glue gun. The wedding is in 13 days, so I did 13 items. To the above 8 items I added:

    9. scissors (toolkit came with it) "Cut what's not important, focus on each other"
    10. flashlight "Be the LIGHT in each other's lives" (thanks for the tip anonymous)
    11. wrench "Always adjust to every situation"
    12. Pliers (I personalized this one to the bride and groom) "Holding tight to my Swolemate" It's not misspelled, it's some reference they use to each other. You could obviously change to "Hold on tight to your soulmate".
    13. screw gun...again an explanation....my nephew in quite a jokester and in his thirties, so I put "screw like rabbits, we want babies!"

I also added a mini chalkboard easel to mimic a caution sign when work is being done "CAUTION! Elizabeth at work. Sassy, Classy, and Bad-Assy" I used a chalkboard pen to write on it so it could be erased but the Bride loved it so much she said she was going to display it just as is.

As a final touch, I added a chalkboard tag to the basket that read "Poperty of Gary Guzman 9.30.2017" But then put a cross mark thru "Gary" and Wrote "Elizabeth" above. She thought that was hilarious, and so did my nephew when he picked her up.

The whole basket was a big hit, everyone loved all the PINK tools. I already got request for 3 more! And with breast cancer awareness month coming in October, the tools should be easier to find in local stores. (I got my set at Target. Amazon also has a selection.)
