Easter Candy Bouquet

Hello! Welcome to my blog!
A new craft passion of mine has been making candy bouquets. With Easter coming up, I knew this project would be a lot of fun with the variety of candy available, and of course the lovely colors that go with this season.
I have been using empty bean cans for my bases as they are frugal and I love to creatively recycle. I prepare the base by putting a few rocks in the bottom of the can and I pour some plaster over them to secure. Then I glue a styrofoam ball on top of the dried plaster. I added grass to fill the can. Then I added prepared skewers to the styrofoam ball, rearranging them until I got the look I wanted.

Click HERE to see the candy bouquet I made for Valentine's Day.

The phrase and the chocolate bunnies were cut out with a Cricut using the Create a Critter cartridge.
I am going to have to make a few more of these. They are fun to make and even more fun to give away. Thanks for stopping by!

The Best Gift Around a Christmas Tree.... Quick Gift Idea

I have always loved this quote, and then I saw this idea HERE on a blog called Your Creative Juices for a simple yet sweet gift idea using this quote.

I made the quote labels. I used a frame from Graphics Fairy, and a clip art from The Vintage Workshop. I did two gifts - one with a roll of wrapping paper and one with ribbon. I tied a bow in the wrapping paper and attached the quote tag. For the ribbon gift I made a cardboard ribbon holder and wound 3 yards of ribbon around it.
The card was cut from the Lacy Labels Cricut cartridge, size 2 1/2. For the background of the card I printed sheet music from Graphics Fairy.

I gave these gifts out yesterday and they went over well. I am thinking they will be something that will be helpful for preparing for Christmas - with a quote that invites the Christmas spirit.

"Father" Wood Sign

Doing my Father mantel today and needed a sign. I used some scrap wood my daughter brought home for a project. This sign is made from two pieces of tongue and groove wood that I glued together which made it easy to glue together. I cut out a stencil using a Cricut from the "doodletype"cartridge size 5 using the shadow option.  I used the technique for my stenciled planters to adhere to the wood and paint.
Because the wood is weathered, which is the look I wanted - I didn't sand the wood - but I did clean it the best I could. For this project I used a sponge dabber and then used the paint sparingly to give the letters a stamped look. I am going to look around for some hardware to put on the four corners to finish it up. Wish me luck!
Check out my Dad's Day page for more Father's Day ideas - and check in a day or two to see what else I am putting on the mantel.

Stencil a Wood Planter

My neighbor asked me if I wanted a couple of wood hanging baskets that she wanted to get rid of. Of course I obliged! I took off the hanging accessories as I wanted them for a herb garden on my outside stairs. I also decided to stencil them with butterflies and dragonflies.

I cut a couple of dragonflies from the Home Decor Cricut cartridge, size 4 and 2.
I cut a couple of butterflies from the same cartridge, size 5 and 2.
I use cardstock that I have oodles of for my stencil.

1. Clean planter. I really just dusted mine off - I wasn't too fussy.
2. I cut the images so the stencil would fit where I wanted it to. I applied spray adhesive to the stencil.
3. Using a sponge dauber, I applied black acrylic paint. Wait a couple minutes and carefully take off stencil.
4. I applied the smaller stencil using the same technique in step 2. I used a scrap piece of paper to cover the wood planter along the edges of the stencil so I could fill in the stencil with black paint without getting the paint on the wood where I didn't want it.

Trust in Your Potential - Inspirational Card

At my Church, we spotlight a woman every Sunday. I volunteered to make an inspirational card to give to all those being spotlighted. I saw a card like this (sorry I don't have the link) and I loved the quote so I had to make some cards with this quote on it. I thought this was a good quote to start off a new year with. Here are the colors I used. I am sure any color would look fabulous.

The plant was cut by a Cricut from the cartridge "Lyrical Letters" page 66, size 3 1/2.
When I sew on a card, I intentionally don't go straight and I backstitch at every corner.
Download and print the card below and give it a try.
