Light and Life - Christmas Printable and Card

Hello! Welcome to my blog! Since Christmas is a few months away, it is about time that I post some projects that I made last year that I did not have time to post before Christmas. Instead of a photo family card last year I made a regular card. I seen a poster online and I liked the idea of it for a card (when I find it again I will link to it).

I printed the image I made on kraft card stock. I fit four to a page. After cutting the images, I adhered glue to the circle area, plus a few dots in one corner and stamped a star. I sprinkled glitter generously to the page and let dry over night. After tapping off the excess glitter I adhered the glittered image with pop dots to a craft card that had a cream background paper previously attached to it. A simple to do card with a beautiful effect. The image is free to use for personal use. Click on the above image, save and copy to your favourite publishing program.

Christmas 2012 Card - Make Your Own, It's Easy!!

Here is this year's Christmas card that I made. I don't have any fancy program - I use my slideshow program called Keynote. CLICK HERE for the tutorial...

Now, for the particulars. Start with a full page color black. Add desired background, resizing it to show some of the black for a frame. I included the background I used below.

I used the fonts Rage and Circus for "Christmas"making them different sizes. I added a white shadow to each letter (go into "Inspector" click on shapes, click on shadow, change color as desired)
The other font I used is Harrington. The snowflakes are from the font "Flakey" and I used the opaque option in the inspector to fade them a little. I put black boxes around the pictures and the mid section.

Here are cards I made for the last two years...

Make Your Own Family Photo Christmas Card

I saw a family photo Christmas card idea on Pinterest - which originally came from an Etsy shop called Announcing You.  I loved the photo strip idea and so I made it into this years Christmas card.

It is easy to make your own family photo Christmas Card. Here is how I made mine:

1. Use the publishing program of your choice on your computer. I have a Mac. I use Keynote.

2. Choose a background color. I chose grey.

3. Insert a white square and stretch it the length and width you desire. Insert desired pics and crop them to fit the white rectangle. After all the pics were the size I wanted - I rotated the rectangle and pics 2 degrees.

4. Type in a sentiment.

5. After I was happy with how everything looked, I clicked on File and then export. I clicked on the images button, made sure it said JPEG file, and saved it to my iphoto. In iphoto I cropped it to constrain it to a 4x6, but you can choose whatever.

6. Now I will transfer it to a jump drive and print it out at my favorite photo lab. The going rate in my city is 19 cents per picture - not bad for a family photo Christmas card.

Joy Christmas Card

I found the inspiration for this card on a blog called Just Give Me Stamps. She does beautiful work. My card is definitely toned down from hers, but this was my crack at it with the supplies I had.

I didn't have a snowman stamp that was similar to the one on the inspiration card so I went looking for free clip art. Isn't this snowman adorable? You can download this snowman and other clip art for free at Designed To a T website. Click HERE to check it out.

I printed out the Joy lettering with the snowman in the middle, and I also printed out another snowman.
I cut out the extra snowman and put him over the other snowman with pop dots. I also chalked around the snowman with yellow chalk and added some sprinkles to give a snowflake effect.

Make Your Own Family Photo Christmas Card

It is easy to make your own family photo Christmas Card. Here is how I made mine:

1. Use the publishing program of your choice on your computer. I have a Mac. I use Keynote.

2. Choose a background color. I chose black.

3. Insert a picture. I put a white border around my picture.

4. Type in a sentiment. The handwriting font I used is called Porcelain. I downloaded it for FREE. Find this font and other free Christmas fonts HERE.

5. Add clip art. I downloaded an awesome Christmas dingbat font called Winter Wonderland. This dingbat has the beautiful snowflake I used on my card and other wonderful Christmas clip arts. Actually, I downloaded quite a few dingbats from this particular site. Check it out HERE.

6. After I was happy with how everything looked, I clicked on File and then export. I clicked on the images button, made sure it said JPEG file, and saved it to my iphoto. In iphoto I cropped it to constrain it to a 4x6, but you can choose whatever.

7. Now I will transfer it to a jump drive and print it out at Superstore ( Walmart photo is way too busy at this time of year ).

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Christmas Card with Homemade Envelope

I saw a card like this and loved it. I did not have the stamp, but I did not let that stop me. I went on the hunt for clip art and I found these mittens on the Scholastic Printables site. They have all sorts of cute FREE clipart available like the skates, sled and holly below. Click HERE to check out more of their clip art.

After finding awesome free clipart,  I went to work making my sentiment for the card. I wish when I saved this card idea that I bookmarked whose artwork it was - but that was way back when. I will not put the picture of inspiration on my blog as I don't know who to give the credit to.

I made the card out of a 4" x 9" paper. This is the first time I have tried this size and I LOVE it. You get three cards from a 12x12. One of the issues I always have is with envelopes. I would love to make 6"x6" cards or 4 x 4 cards, but they are hard to find and when I do find them - really pricey. I made my own out of pop in lunch bags. I cut the bag a little longer than 4 1/2 inches with a decorative scissor. I punched a half circle in the middle so the bow would fit, and I stamped on a snowman. So cute and very frugal. You can get 50 envelopes this way for $1 or $1.25 depending where you shop.

Frugal Alternative - Pop in lunch bag for an envelope
With the pearls that are on the cards, I saw the greatest tip on another blog. Color white pearls the color you need. The pen that was used was a Copic pen. I DON'T HAVE those, so to make do with what I have, I used Sharpies.

Frugal Alternative - Color your pearl stickers with a Sharpie

Thanks for looking!

Merry and Bright Christmas Card

I seen a card that had the saying "Merry and Bright" and it used bright yellow paper. I was so excited to  have an opportunity to use up some of my overstocked bright yellow.

I embossed the paper with my new cuttlebug embossing folder, Kassie's Brocade. I embossed the stocking as well. I tried a navy cardstock, and sanded it to bring out the white.

I also tried a white cardstock and inked it with navy blue. It is fun to try different versions of the same card.

Quick and Easy Christmas Cards

A couple of my friends and I got together for a card night. Here is what we made....

This is an easy card that uses up some scrap paper. Just cut a whole bunch of circles that are a few different sizes. I glued on the biggest circles first shaping the wreath and then I glued the two smaller sizes on here and there. Add on a bow and you are done!

Card number two is pretty self explanatory.  Use two coordinating papers. Glue on three snowflakes and buttons, and stick on a saying.

Be Merry Christmas Card

Here is a simple Christmas card. I cut out a branch from the Cricut cartridge, Give a Hoot.
I drew on ornament hooks, and glued buttons on to look like Christmas decorations. I stamped on a Christmas stamp. I added glitter to the branch, and the middle of the snowflake on one of the cards. I rounded the corners with my chomper.

Baby Jesus Christmas Card

I saw a really nice card in an old Paper Crafts magazine. It had a beautifully sketched picture of Santa. The card style and layout inspired me, but I wanted the reason for the season on it instead. My daughter is an awesome artist so I asked her to sketch a picture for me. She did an awesome job.

"Sending Holiday Cheer" Christmas Card

This card idea was inspired by a card Nicole Heady made. The holly is cut from the "Joys of the Season" cricut cartridge. I cut out a holly that was too big for the card, so I cut out the leaves to make a different looking holly. I stapled the ribbon on the card, making sure to hide the staples with the round sentiment.
I rounded the card corners with my chomper, and inked all the edges.
